Volevamo iniziare a pregare una novena. Come sapete, stiamo vivendo tempi difficili nella Chiesa. E’ soprattutto una battaglia spirituale, per cui non vogliamo smettere di pregare insieme alla petizione: “Chiediamo che il Signore protegga l’Istituto Giovanni Paolo II”.
Iniziamo oggi, giorno della Trasfigurazione del Signore, e finiamo nel giorno di San Massimiliano Kolbe, un santo canonizzato da Giovanni Paolo II.
Vi mando un testo e una preghiera che possono aiutarci a pregare insieme.
Che la volontà del Signore sia sempre fatta.

We wanted to start praying a novena. As you know, we are living through difficult times in the Church. It is above all a spiritual battle, so we do not want to stop praying together with the petition: “We ask that the Lord protect the John Paul II Institute”.
We begin today, the day of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and we end the day of St. Maximilian Kolbe, a saint canonized by John Paul II.

Queríamos comenzar el rezo de una novena. Como sabéis estamos viviendo momentos difíciles en la Iglesia. Es sobre todo una batalla espiritual, por eso no queremos dejar de rezar unidos con la petición: “Pedimos para que el Señor proteja el Instituto Juan Pablo II”.
Comenzamos hoy, día de la Transfiguración del Señor, y terminamos el día de San Maximiliano Kolbe, un santo canonizado por Juan Pablo II.
Os envío un texto y una oración que puede ayudarnos a rezar juntos.

Primo giorno. La trasfigurazione del Signore
Parte dell’omelia di Card. Ratzinger nella messa esequiale di Giovanni Paolo II:
“Seguimi” dice il Signore risorto a Pietro, come sua ultima parola a questo discepolo, scelto per pascere le sue pecore. “Seguimi” – questa parola lapidaria di Cristo può essere considerata la chiave per comprendere il messaggio che viene dalla vita del nostro compianto ed amato Papa Giovanni Paolo II, le cui spoglie deponiamo oggi nella terra come seme di immortalità – il cuore pieno di tristezza, ma anche di gioiosa speranza e di profonda gratitudine.
Seguimi – da giovane studente Karol Wojtyła era entusiasta della letteratura, del teatro, della poesia. Lavorando in una fabbrica chimica, circondato e minacciato dal terrore nazista, ha sentito la voce del Signore: Seguimi! In questo contesto molto particolare cominciò a leggere libri di filosofia e di teologia, entrò poi nel seminario clandestino creato dal Cardinale Sapieha e dopo la guerra poté completare i suoi studi nella facoltà teologica dell’Università Jaghellonica di Cracovia. Tante volte nelle sue lettere ai sacerdoti e nei suoi libri autobiografici ci ha parlato del suo sacerdozio, al quale fu ordinato il 1° novembre 1946. In questi testi interpreta il suo sacerdozio in particolare a partire da tre parole del Signore. Innanzitutto questa: “Non voi avete scelto me, ma io ho scelto voi e vi ho costituiti perché andiate e portiate frutto e il vostro frutto rimanga” (Gv 15, 16). La seconda parola è: “Il buon pastore offre la vita per le pecore” (Gv 10, 11). E finalmente: “Come il Padre ha amato me, così anch’io ho amato voi. Rimanete nel mio amore” (Gv 15, 9). In queste tre parole vediamo tutta l’anima del nostro Santo Padre. E’ realmente andato ovunque ed instancabilmente per portare frutto, un frutto che rimane. “Alzatevi, andiamo!”, è il titolo del suo penultimo libro. “Alzatevi, andiamo!” – con queste parole ci ha risvegliato da una fede stanca, dal sonno dei discepoli di ieri e di oggi. “Alzatevi, andiamo!” dice anche oggi a noi. Il Santo Padre è stato poi sacerdote fino in fondo, perché ha offerto la sua vita a Dio per le sue pecore e per l’intera famiglia umana, in una donazione quotidiana al servizio della Chiesa e soprattutto nelle difficili prove degli ultimi mesi. Così è diventato una sola cosa con Cristo, il buon pastore che ama le sue pecore. E infine “rimanete nel mio amore”: Il Papa che ha cercato l’incontro con tutti, che ha avuto una capacità di perdono e di apertura del cuore per tutti, ci dice, anche oggi, con queste parole del Signore: Dimorando nell’amore di Cristo impariamo, alla scuola di Cristo, l’arte del vero amore.
Beato te, caro Papa Giovanni Paolo II, perché hai creduto!
Continua, ti imploriamo, a sostenere dal cielo la fede del popolo di Dio e continua a vegliare sull’Istituto Giovanni Paolo II.
Carissimo San Giovanni Paolo II, ti ringraziamo per tutto quello che ci hai dato e per tutto quello che continuiamo a ricevere per la tua intercessione. Ti ringraziamo per essere testimone della misericordia del nostro Padre celeste. Ti ringraziamo per essere un vero amico e discepolo di Gesù che rivela pienamente l’uomo all’uomo stesso e per essere un eloquente strumento dello Spirito Santo, avendo affidato tutto a Maria, la sposa del Santo Spirito: Totus Tuus.
Finiamo con una preghiera di abbandono a nostra madre:
Vogliamo oggi affidarti il futuro che ci attende,
chiedendoti d’accompagnarci nel nostro cammino.
Siamo uomini e donne di un’epoca straordinaria,
tanto esaltante quanto ricca di contraddizioni.
L’umanità possiede oggi strumenti d’inaudita potenza:
può fare di questo mondo un giardino,
o ridurlo a un ammasso di macerie.
Ha acquistato straordinarie capacità d’intervento
sulle sorgenti stesse della vita:
può usarne per il bene, dentro l’alveo della legge morale,
o può cedere all’orgoglio miope
di una scienza che non accetta confini,
fino a calpestare il rispetto dovuto ad ogni essere umano.
Oggi come mai nel passato,
l’umanità è a un bivio.
E, ancora una volta, la salvezza è tutta e solo,
o Vergine Santa, nel tuo figlio Gesù.
Per questo, Madre, come l’Apostolo Giovanni,
noi vogliamo, prenderti nella nostra casa (cf Gv 19, 27),
per imparare da Te a conformarci al tuo Figlio.
“Donna, ecco i tuoi figli!”.
Siamo qui, davanti a Te,
per affidare alla tua premura materna
noi stessi, la Chiesa, il mondo intero.
Implora per noi il Figlio tuo diletto,
perché ci doni in abbondanza lo Spirito Santo,
lo Spirito di verità che è sorgente di vita.
Accoglilo per noi e con noi,
come nella prima comunità di Gerusalemme,
stretta intorno a Te nel giorno di Pentecoste (cf At 1, 14).
Lo Spirito apra i cuori alla giustizia e all’amore,
induca le persone e le nazioni alla reciproca comprensione
e ad una ferma volontà di pace.
Ti affidiamo tutti gli uomini, a cominciare dai più deboli:
i bimbi non ancora venuti alla luce
e quelle provate dalla fame e dalla malattia.
e quelli nati in condizioni di povertà e di sofferenza,
i giovani alla ricerca di senso,
le persone prive di lavoro
Ti affidiamo le famiglie dissestate,
gli anziani privi di assistenza
e quanti sono soli e senza speranza.
O Madre, che conosci le sofferenze
e le speranze della Chiesa e del mondo,
assisti i tuoi figli nelle quotidiane prove
che la vita riserva a ciascuno
e fa’ che, grazie all’impegno di tutti,
le tenebre non prevalgano sulla luce.
A Te, aurora della salvezza, consegniamo
tutti gli uomini scoprano Cristo,
il nostro cammino nel nuovo Millennio,
perché sotto la tua guida
luce del mondo ed unico Salvatore,
che regna col Padre e lo Spirito Santo
nei secoli dei secoli. Amen.

Primer día de la Novena (6 de agosto, Transfiguración del Señor)
Fragmento de la homilía del Card. Joseph Ratzinger en la misa funeral de Juan Pablo II:
«Sígueme», dice el Señor resucitado a Pedro, como su última palabra a este discípulo elegido para apacentar a sus ovejas. «Sígueme», esta palabra lapidaria de Cristo puede considerarse la llave para comprender el mensaje que viene de la vida de nuestro llorado y amado Papa Juan Pablo II, cuyos restos mortales depositamos hoy en la tierra como semilla de inmortalidad, con el corazón lleno de tristeza, pero también de gozosa esperanza y de profunda gratitud.
«Sígueme». Cuando era un joven estudiante, Karol Wojtyla era un entusiasta de la literatura, del teatro, de la poesía. Trabajando en una fábrica química, circundado y amenazado por el terror nazi, escuchó la voz del Señor: ¡Sígueme! En este contexto tan particular comenzó a leer libros de filosofía y de teología, entró después en el seminario clandestino creado por el cardenal Sapieha y después de la guerra pudo completar sus estudios en la facultad teológica de la Universidad Jagellónica de Cracovia. Tantas veces en sus cartas a los sacerdotes y en sus libros autobiográficos nos habló de su sacerdocio, al que fue ordenado el 1 de noviembre de 1946. En esos textos interpreta su sacerdocio, en particular a partir de tres palabras del Señor. En primer lugar, esta: «No me habéis elegido vosotros a mí, sino que yo os he elegido a vosotros y os he destinado para que vayáis y deis fruto, y vuestro permanezca». La segunda palabra es: «El buen pastor da la vida por sus ovejas». Y finalmente: «Como el Padre me amó, así os he amado yo. Permaneced en mi amor». En estas palabras vemos el alma entera de nuestro Santo Padre. Realmente ha ido a todos los lugares, incansablemente, para llevar fruto, un fruto que permanece. «Levantaos, vamos», es el título de su penúltimo libro. «Levantaos, vamos». Con esas palabras nos ha despertado de una fe cansada, del sueño de los discípulos de ayer y hoy. «Levantaos, vamos», nos dice hoy también a nosotros. El Santo Padre fue además sacerdote hasta el final porque ofreció su vida a Dios por sus ovejas y por la entera familia humana, en una entrega cotidiana al servicio de la Iglesia y sobre todo en las duras pruebas de los últimos meses. Así se ha convertido en una sola cosa con Cristo, el buen pastor que ama sus ovejas. Y, en fin, «permaneced en mi amor»: el Papa, que buscó el encuentro con todos, que tuvo una capacidad de perdón y de apertura de corazón para todos, nos dice hoy también con estas palabras del Señor: «Habitando en el amor de Cristo, aprendemos, en la escuela de Cristo, el arte del amor verdadero».
¡Bendito seas, amado Papa Juan Pablo II, porque has creído! Te pedimos que continúes sosteniendo desde el cielo la fe del pueblo de Dios, y continúes velando por el Instituto Juan Pablo II.
Querido San Juan Pablo II, te damos gracias por todo lo que nos diste y por todo lo que seguimos recibiendo por tu intercesión. Te damos gracias por ser testigo de la misericordia de nuestro Padre celestial, porque ser un verdadero amigo y discípulo de Jesús que revela plenamente el hombre al hombre mismo, y por ser un verdadero amigo y discípulo de Jesús e instrumento elocuente del Espíritu Santo, habiéndolo confiado todo a María, la esposa del Santo Espíritu – Totus Tuus.
Se termina con la oración de ofrecimiento a la Virgen María
Cada día de la novena terminamos con esta oración de Juan Pablo II ofreciendo todo a María:
Hoy queremos confiarte el futuro que nos espera, rogándote que nos acompañes en nuestro camino. Somos hombres y mujeres de una época extraordinaria, tan apasionante como rica de contradicciones.
La humanidad posee hoy instrumentos de potencia inaudita.
Puede hacer de este mundo un jardín o reducirlo a un cúmulo de escombros. Ha logrado una extraordinaria capacidad de intervenir
en las fuentes mismas de la vida:
Puede usarlas para el bien, dentro del marco de la ley moral,
o ceder al orgullo miope de una ciencia que no acepta límites,
llegando incluso a pisotear el respeto debido a cada ser humano.
Hoy, como nunca en el pasado, la humanidad está en una encrucijada.
Y, una vez más, la salvación está sólo y enteramente,
oh Virgen Santa, en tu hijo Jesús.
Por esto, Madre, como el apóstol Juan,
nosotros queremos acogerte en nuestra casa,
para aprender de ti a ser como tu Hijo.
¡“Mujer, aquí tienes a tus hijos”!.
Estamos aquí, ante ti, para confiar a tus cuidados maternos
a nosotros mismos, a la Iglesia y al mundo entero.
Ruega por nosotros a tu querido Hijo,
para que nos dé con abundancia el Espíritu Santo,
el Espíritu de verdad que es fuente de vida.
Acógelo por nosotros y con nosotros, como en la primera comunidad de Jerusalén, reunida en torno a ti el día de Pentecostés.
Que el Espíritu abra los corazones a la justicia y al amor,
guíe a las personas y las naciones hacia una comprensión recíproca
y hacia un firme deseo de paz.
Te encomendamos a todos los hombres,
comenzando por los más débiles: a los niños que aún no han visto la luz
y a los que han nacido en medio de la pobreza y el sufrimiento;
a los jóvenes en busca de sentido, a las personas que no tienen trabajo
y a las que padecen hambre o enfermedad.
Te encomendamos a las familias rotas, a los ancianos que carecen de asistencia
y a cuantos están solos y sin esperanza.
Oh Madre, que conoces los sufrimientos y las esperanzas de la Iglesia y del mundo, ayuda a tus hijos en las pruebas cotidianas que la vida reserva a cada uno
y haz que, por el esfuerzo de todos,
las tinieblas no prevalezcan sobre la luz.
A ti, aurora de la salvación, confiamos
nuestro camino en el nuevo Milenio, para que bajo tu guía
todos los hombres descubran a Cristo, luz del mundo y único Salvador,
que reina con el Padre y el Espíritu Santo por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

First Day: The Transfiguration of the Lord
Beloved John Paul II, in his homily at your funeral, your dear friend and fellow bishop, Cardinal Ratzinger said:
“Follow me. ” The Risen Lord says these words to Peter. They are his last words to this disciple, chosen to shepherd his flock. “Follow me” – this lapidary saying of Christ can be taken as the key to understanding the message which comes to us from the life of our late beloved Pope John Paul II. Today we bury his remains in the earth as a seed of immortality – our hearts are full of sadness, yet at the same time of joyful hope and profound gratitude.
Follow me – as a young student Karol Wojtyła was thrilled by literature, the theatre, and poetry. Working in a chemical plant, surrounded and threatened by the Nazi terror, he heard the voice of the Lord: Follow me! In this extraordinary setting he began to read books of philosophy and theology, and then entered the clandestine seminary established by Cardinal Sapieha. After the war he was able to complete his studies in the faculty of theology of the Jagiellonian University of Kraków. How often, in his letters to priests and in his autobiographical books has he spoken to us about his priesthood, to which he was ordained on 1 November 1946. In these texts he interprets his priesthood with particular reference to three sayings of the Lord. First: “You did not choose me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last” (Jn 15:16). The second saying is: “The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (Jn 10:11). And then: “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love” (Jn 15:9). In these three sayings we see the heart and soul of our Holy Father. He really went everywhere, untiringly, in order to bear fruit, fruit that lasts. “Rise, Let us be on our Way!” is the title of his next-to-last book. “Rise, let us be on our way!” – with these words he roused us from a lethargic faith, from the sleep of the disciples of both yesterday and today. “Rise, let us be on our way!” he continues to say to us even today. The Holy Father was a priest to the last, for he offered his life to God for his flock and for the entire human family, in a daily self-oblation for the service of the Church, especially amid the sufferings of his final months. And in this way he became one with Christ, the Good Shepherd who loves his sheep. Finally, “abide in my love:” the Pope who tried to meet everyone, who had an ability to forgive and to open his heart to all, tells us once again today, with these words of the Lord, that by abiding in the love of Christ we learn, at the school of Christ, the art of true love.
Blessed are you, beloved Pope John Paul II, because you believed! Continue, we implore you, to sustain from heaven the faith of God’s people, and continue to watch over the John Paul II Institute.
Beloved Saint John Paul II, we thank you for all that you gave us and for all that we continue to receive through your intercession. We thank you for being a witness to the mercy of our heavenly Father, for being a true friend and disciple of Jesus who fully reveals man to man himself, and for being such an eloquent instrument of the Holy Spirit, having entrusted everything to Mary, the spouse of the Holy Spirit – Totus Tuus.
With you, we pray your act of entrustment to Mary…

“O Mother, today we wish to entrust to you the future that awaits us, and we ask you to be with us on our way.
We are the men and women of an extraordinary time,
exhilarating yet full of contradictions.
Humanity now has instruments of unprecedented power:
we can turn this world into a garden, or reduce it to a pile of rubble.
We have devised the astounding capacity to intervene in the very well-springs of life: man can use this power for good, within the bounds of the moral law,
or he can succumb to the short-sighted pride of a science which accepts no limits,
but tramples on the respect due to every human being.
Today as never before in the past, humanity stands at a crossroads.
And once again, O Virgin Most Holy,
salvation lies fully and uniquely in Jesus, your Son.

May the Spirit open our hearts to justice and love,
and guide people and nations to mutual understanding and a frm desire for peace. We entrust to you all people, beginning with the weakest:
the babies yet unborn, and those born into poverty and sufering,
the young in search of meaning, the unemployed,
and those sufering hunger and disease.
We entrust to you all troubled families,
the elderly with no one to help them, and all who are alone and without hope.
O Mother, you know the suferings and hopes of the Church and the world:
come to the aid of your children in the daily trials which life brings to each one,
and grant that, thanks to the eforts of all, the darkness will not prevail over the light. To you, Dawn of Salvation, we commit our journey through the new Millennium, so that with you as guide all people may know Christ,
the light of the world and its only Savior,
who reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit
for ever and ever. Amen.”
