Freedom's Fragile Architecture

Ajoutée le 11 sept. 2014
Thirteen years ago today, the events of “9-11” destroyed two skyscrapers, severely damaged the Pentagon, and extended the tragedy to rural Pennsylvania. In all, some 3,000 people died.

The "attack," according to the federal government in Washington, were carried out by Islamic terrorists who hated America’s freedoms.

But beyond how the World Trade Center’s twin towers disappeared, a key question is: Have our civil liberties suffered a similar total destruction?

Former Treasury official Paul Craig Roberts does not mince words when it comes to cross-examining our rulers. His hard-hitting commentaries online and in several newspapers take stock of the Washington warfare state and its impact on the delicate architecture of our liberties.

In a just-completed column, the former Wall Street Journal staffer wrote:

“The tragedy of September 11, 2001, goes far beyond the deaths of those who died in the towers and the deaths of firefighters and first responders who succumbed to illnesses caused by inhalation of toxic dust.”
He added, “[A] new generation of Americans has been born into the 9-11 myth that has been used to create the American warfare/police state.”

Playing no favorites, Roberts went on to say that, under both the Bush and Obama regimes, the U.S. military, on the basis of 9-11, was used to kill, maim, dispossess and displace millions of Muslims in seven nations.

And to Roberts, it seems doubtful that anyone in those nations had much, if anything, to do with 9-11.
Roberts added that, since 9-11:

• A generation of Americans has been born into disdain of Muslims.

• A generation of Americans has been born into a police state.

• A generation of Americans has been born into continuous warfare.

• A generation of Americans has been born into a society in which truth is replaced with endless lies.

Indeed, according to the official story, on September 11, 2001, America’s vast national-security apparatus was defeated by a few young Saudis—allegedly armed only with box cutters.

As Roberts and other 9-11 commentators have noted, the U.S. National Security State, on that day only, proved to be totally helpless.

Roberts pointed out, that on 9-11: “The US Air Force, for the first time in its history, could not get interceptor jet fighters into the air.”

He also noted that, only on September 11th, 2001:

• The National Security Council failed.

• All sixteen U.S. intelligence agencies failed.

• And Air Traffic Control failed.

And beyond the failure of airport security at Boston's Logan Airport and elsewhere, the White House tried to resist the demands of victims' survivors for a real investigation.

Finally, the 9-11 Commission was assembled to chronicle the government’s account.

However, Roberts noted that the commission’s chairman, its vice chairman, and its legal counsel later revealed that information was withheld from the commission, lies were told to the panel— and that the commission ‘was set up to fail.’”

Thus, Roberts remarked: “The worst security failure in history resulted in not a single firing. No one was held responsible.”

Yet, Congress went on to pass the oddly-named “Patriot Act,” which, critics say, institutionalized a police state in “the land of the free.”

That’s according to Roberts, former Congressman Ron Paul and many others on the left and the right whose comments are suppressed by the major media.

In summary, Roberts noted: “9-11 was used to fundamentally alter the nature of the U.S. government and its relationship to the American people. Unaccountable executive power has replaced due process and the checks and balances established by the U.S. Constitution.”
